Air Jordan V Dark Army Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Air Jordan V Dark Army get their name from the colorway and kind of dropped out of nowhere.

These add some yellow tint to the icey outsole and use some interesting materials and contrast stitching. Probably the biggest difference from a regular pair of Vs is the print on the ankle liner of the shoe.

Khakis, grey or army green pants, or dark blue denim all pair well with these. Surprising, since the color combo is so odd! I think a grey hoodie or crewneck works great as a top with this particular colorway. I could see a bomber jacket or vest over a white tee with these too.

I feel like these got kind of slept on due to a not-so-wide non-US release, but I’m glad I picked up a pair when I did as they are now pretty rare! When they dropped, I remember a lot of sneakerheads were complaining about the yellow “ice” parts of the sole along with the materials, contrast stitching and graphic on the inside of the shoe. Apparently the mixture didn’t sit right with many, but I was obviously feeling it!

How Are The Materials?

These basically have an all-patent upper. The yellow ice-sole actually is fairly thoughtful as the clear soles tend to yellow over time anyway. These still look as good as the day I bought them 6 years ago! The green contrast stitching also helps keep the shoe fresh as white stitching would definitely make the shoe look dingy quick. The patent seems to be of good quality and has been slow to crease and yellow, which are typically the two main concerns with white patent leather.

How Do They Fit?

The Air Jordan V Dark Army fit a tad big like most Air Jordan V’s so they are fairly comfy and roomy at true to size! They are heavy and bulky though, so these are definitely more of a shoe to kick it in rather than one designed for tons of physical activity. If you don’t walk around in them too much, they are definitely super comfy though.
